8th Grade Social Studies: North Carolina History

 Currently in 8th grade social studies...

We're looking at NC in the 20th century.  We'll be building a portfolio of important people and events that have affected our state.

 We look at the symbol of America that welcome immigrants from Europe:  the Statue of Liberty.  We'll also look at our own family history by constructing a family tree.

How did NC begin recovering from the Civil War and Reconstruction?

We'll be reading about the economic development that occurred from 1877-1907.  We'll be using the NC textbook and answering questions in small groups to complete the activity.

Monday, May 7 4.05 Analyze the political, economic, and social impact of Reconstruction on the state and identify the reasons why Reconstruction came to an end. How did Reconstruction affect NC and the nation?

We will finally find out what happened to Mary Surratt in "The Conspirator."  We will also be reading from the textbook to learn the plan of Reconstruction for our war-torn country.

We will go over our questions on Reconstruction today.  We will look at the the Five W's of the Industial Revolution.

How did the Industrial Revolution affect NC?

We start off with a little review activity for science.  We're creating foldables to share information on the four zones of the ocean.

We have a couple more W's of the Five W's of the Industrial Revolution to finish, also.

How did European immigrants gain access to the US?

We're headed to the computer lab today to learn about Ellis Island.  Many European Immigrants were "processed" through this station under the watchful gaze of the Statue of Liberty.  Complete the scavenger hunt to learn about the experience.
