Students were given extra time to complete the Textbook Quiz from yesterday. Section 1-1 was discussed and highlights pointed out. Students were given a "fill-in" paper that is in a Guided Reading format. I reminded students that spelling counts since there were copying/using the textbook. All students were encouraged to use good handwriting/printing that includes size and letter formation. Cursive is not required, I accept what I can read! :-) This will be a skill that will be emphasized all year and students will be encouraged to work on improvement.

Questions were answered for those students that had difficulty locating textbook answers prior to grading papers. Students were able to hear and see the correct answers on powerpoint. Papers were collected and students who could not located their paper wrote an excuse to turn in tomorrow or were given another paper to complete tonight. Textbook Quiz was started answering questions and using the textbook to find the answers.

Students were issued textbooks today and we worked on making book covers from paper grocery bags. Students may decorate appropriately as they would like. I only ask that they not use regular pencils to do so as this rubs on on their clothes and our desks/lab tables. We will be investigating the set-up of our textbook so that students will be able to use their textbook resources.
March 2009 Squid Dissection Activity was a big hit!
On March 25 and 26 7th graders participated in our annual Squid Days adventures and dissections. Thank you to all the parents that volunteered. Your time and help was invaluable! Students enjoyed exploring the external structures and internal organs of the squid. We ended with the fun of actually removing the "pen" and writing with squid ink. Then the culmination of the activity after clean up was actually getting to taste calimari (aka squid). Mixed reviews were received on the taste testing. We look forward to doing this activity again next year.
