Greetings from Barbara Matthews of Jacobs Fork Middle School and the Science Department!

This is my 24th year of teaching in Catawba County and my 13th year at Jacobs Fork Middle School.  I have taught Science every year, but also Math, Language Arts, Writing, and Social Studies prior to tranferring to JFMS. I also have been teaching a Math class two evenings a week at CVCC for the last 11 years. Even though I really enjoy our middle schoolers,  working with adults help balance our hectic pace at Middle School!

I was employed for 15 years in the local furniture and cable television industries handling Customer Service, Sales and Marketing assignments prior to changing my career to education. 

I have two sons aged 35 and 29 who are both single.  One lives in Denver, NC and the other lives near Washington, DC.  I enjoy keeping up with their activities and adventures.  My "spare" time is filled with gardening, reading, making pottery, traveling, and sharing my home with the 5 wonderful grandchildren I inherited when I remarried.
