 Mrs. Cody

 Valerie Cody graduated from Western Carolina University with a B.A. in English in 1992 with a minor in Writing and Editing. Before coming to Fred T. Foard this year she taught at Saint Stephens High School for 19 years. She teaches English III, Honors English III, and all levels fo English IV.

Mrs. Cody loves that she was made to feel very welcome from day one and she appreciates coming home to teach in her neighbooring community. In her free time she enjoys being outdoors with her husband Mark, her two children Dylan (7th grade) and Dawson (2nd grade), canoeing, mountain biking, riding road bikes, and camping.

Jared Cassels graduated from Appalachian State University with an major in English Secondary Education in 2011. This is his first year teaching and he is thrilled to be working at Fred T. Foard. The classes he teaches are English I, CP English I, and CP English IV.

In Mr. Cassels free time he enjoys strumming a few chords on the guitar, hiking, camping, reading a good book, and playing sports - mostly baseball. His favorite thing about Foard is the environment and the helpfulness of the other teachers. An interesting fact about Mr. Cassels is he has tried every sport imaginable!

Josh Farris teaches English I and IV. He is also the advisor for the Book Club and the Film Club.  There are so many things he likes about Foard that he’ll have to get back to the website later about the specifics.

 Mr. Williamson

Eric Williamson is an English and Creative Writing teacher.  He was born in Fayetteville, NC but his family moved to Stuttgart, Germany shortly after he was born. His family also lived in Balboa, Panama for five years before returning to Johnson City, Tennessee.  He is a graduate of East Tennessee State University.  This is Mr. Williamson's sixth year teaching, having taught previously at Science Hill High School in Johnson City, TN.  He is the advisor of the International Club and is a fan of University of Tennessee football and UNC Tarheels basketball.
 
In his free time Mr. Williamson likes to spend time with his wife Sarah, exercise, teach martial arts, and he loves video games.  He also enjoys reading, just like most English teachers. 
 
Mr. Williamson likes the students best here at Foard.  He says, “The students here make teaching fun.  Our students are smart, friendly, and they respect the staff."

Lydia Gillespie is an English teacher not only at Foard, but also at Lenoir Rhyne. She was born in Jacksonville Beach, Florida and attended Palm Beach Atlantic University where she received a BA in English. She also attended Gardner-Webb University where she received a MA in English and a MDiv.

Her favorite college team is the Florida Gators. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children. She also enjoys reading, watching sports on TV and in person, outdoor stuff like hiking and camping, and anything having to do with the beach.

Mrs. Gillespie's husband Chris, is a youth minister at First Baptist Church, Hickory. She is an only child so she loves to visit her mom who lives in Jacksonville Beach, Florida whenever she can.

Her favorite thing about Foard is the camaraderie among the students and between the students and the staff. She says “it makes for a fun school environment.”

Regina Savinsky teaches English. She was born and raised in Moundsville, West Virginia and attended West Virginia University where she received a BA in English. She also attended Lenoir-Rhyne College where she received her NC Teaching Licensure. She is one of the advisors for BETA club.

In her free time she enjoys cooking, spending time with family and friends, walking, and listening to music. She has two daughters, Veronica and Rebecca. Her favorite college football team is the WVU Mountaineers and her favorite pro football team is the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Her favorite thing about Foard is the way the faculty and staff are so friendly and helpful. She says “This place runs like clockwork! The students are very friendly and really want to please the teachers.”

 Mr. Woods Class Site

Ron Woods teaches English at many levels. He teaches English to grades 9, 11, and 12.  He was born in Hickory, NC and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of New Mexico with a composite education degree in English, drama and speech/communications.  Mr. Woods has taught for 18 years.  He taught drama at Tuttle Middle School fro 5 years, English at Mill Creek Middle School for 3 years, and English here at Foard for 5 years. 

Mr. Woods is on several committees such as the Foard BLT, the Senior Affairs Committee and he is the chairperson for the Senior Project Committee.  He is also the English Department Chairperson.  Mr. Woods’ favorite things about Foard are the students and his colleagues.  He said, “I truly believe that FTF is the best high school in Catawba County.”

Pam Tipton is a native of Austin, Texas. She attended the University of Texas and University of Queens, in Charlotte. Mrs. Tipton teaches English here at Foard.  She is in her 10th year teaching and has also taught at Hickory High, and West Lincoln.

Mrs. Tipton is married to Tip and has a daughter, Laura, who is working toward a BSW degree. They also have a houseful of pets including:   two dogs, and two cats.   Mrs. Tipton enjoys being with her family and friends playing disc golf, and training her Huskie and American Staffordshire terrier. She loves being at Foard.
