Attendance Review

 Attendance Review

Attendance review is set up to make sure that all students meet the Catawba County attendance requirements. Catawba County Schools policy says that a student who misses more than eight absences in a class will not receive credit for that class regardless of the student's average. The "eight day" rule includes both excused and unexcused absences.

  • If a student has a 69 or below, they automatically fail a class regardless of attendance.
  • If more than 8 days are missed, written documentation of extenuating circumstances (extended illness) must be presented to the attendance review committee for consideration of credit. This documentation must be provided by a doctor/hospital specifically stating all the dates, reasons, and whether or not the illnesses are related.
  • The principal or his/her designee has the final say as to whether circumstances are extenuating.

 Attendance Review Failure

What makes me eligible?

  • I failed a class because of the Attendance Review process.
  • I would have passed this class if I had missed fewer than 8 days and/or made up seat time in Saturday School (5th period)

How can I make up this credit?

  • Attend PLATO sessions after school between the hours of 3:15-5:00 pm or on Saturday's between the hours of 8-12 pm or complete PLATO hours on my home computer.
  • Complete the 22 hour (depending on pre-test, could be more) course no later than May 12th.
  • Work consistently on the PLATO system. Irregular work habits will forfeit your right to make up this credit through PLATO.

What happens next?

  • Complete the contract and return it to your school counselor by Thursday, March 13.
  • Make sure you and your parents have signed the contract.
  • Wait for notification about your official start date.
  • Ocean you finish, you will receive the final grade you would have earned if you had come to school.
