Attendance review is set up to make sure that all students meet the Catawba County attendance requirements. Catawba County Schools policy says that a student who misses more than eight absences in a class will not receive credit for that class regardless of the student's average. The "eight day" rule includes both excused and unexcused absences.
- If a student has a 69 or below, they automatically fail a class regardless of attendance.
- If more than 8 days are missed, written documentation of extenuating circumstances (extended illness) must be presented to the attendance review committee for consideration of credit. This documentation must be provided by a doctor/hospital specifically stating all the dates, reasons, and whether or not the illnesses are related.
- The principal or his/her designee has the final say as to whether circumstances are extenuating.
