Catawba County Schools Workforce Development Education Department offers a variety of internship opportunities to qualified students, both during the summer and the school year. All programs require students to complete an application, which contains recommendations from two teachers and the student's counselor, as well as a check that the student is in good standing at his/her school in regard to attendance/tardies, grades, and discipline.
Teaching internships allow students to experience working with children in an educational setting during the regular school year. This program also serves to provide extra assistance by the teaching interns for under-or-low-achieving students, thus acting as a drop-out prevention strategy. An application is required, and program guidelines must be met. Prospective interns must be in good standing at their schools with regard to grades, attendance, tardies, and discipline.

The Career internship program gives students the opportunity to gain practical work experience/observation in the profession of their choice or explore potential careers in which they have a demonstrated interest. An application is required, and program guidelines must be met. Prospective intern must be in good standing at their schools with regard to grades, attendance, tardies, and discipline.

To encourage students to become contributing adults within their communities, service internships allow students to volunteer their time to work in various roles. These internships provide students with opportunities designed to establish an appreciation for helping and caring for others. An application is required, and program guidelines must be met. Prospective interns must be in good standing at their schools with regard to grades, attendance, tardies, and discipline.
Catawba County Schools Career Technical Education Department offer various internship possibilities to high school students during the regular school day. Students may apply to do a:
Teaching Internship at an elementary, middle or high school setting,
Career Internship in a specific career area of interest, or
students may apply for a paid Apprenticeship program.
Additionally, students may apply to do an After School internship in a volunteer setting.
During the summer months, high school students grades 9 – 12 may apply to do Volunteer Summer Internships. Rising juniors and seniors may apply to do Career Internships within the summer months. There are several Special Summer Programs available in specific areas:

Catawba County Schools – Teaching Internship
Duke Energy - Engineering Internship
Law Enforcement – Criminal Justice Internship
