Credit Recovery

 Plato

Having trouble keeping on track to graduate? Here are some options for you to recover lost credit.

PLATO is a remediation plan utilizing computer assisted instruction to recover or re-gain course credit. To be eligible for this program, a student must have failed a course due to low grades in the previous semester or as a result of Attendance Review, or need to gain additional credits to stay on track for graduation.

- PLATO Frequently Asked Questions
What is considered mastery?
PLATO determines mastery for each of the units.  PLATO considers a grade of 80 or above mastery.

How can the lab facilitator monitor the percentage of modules completed?
To track user progress, the facilitator should go to “Reports” in PLATO, and then select “Grade Reports”

How will this affect the failing grade?
When a student successfully masters a credit recovery course through PLATO, the new grade is recorded in NC WISE in addition to the old grade, both are reported on the transcript.

Can a student take a new course in PLATO if they miss the window for NCVPS?
Yes, with permission from the principal.  However, if the course is an EOC course then it is strongly recommended that the student does not take it on PLATO.  New courses with EOC’s should be taken on NCVPS or in the classroom with a regular teacher.

Can a student transfer from an EOC course into the same course in PLATO?
No.  Requests for this exemption must be approved by the Principal and Director of Secondary Education.

What if a student fails an EOC course and its EOC test?
The student may repeat the course in the classroom or enroll in credit recovery through NCVPS.

What are the requirements for a new course in PLATO?
A student must master 100% of the modules in PLATO for a new course.

How will the new course in PLATO be graded?
The student will receive the numeric grade that is earned.

What if I have a student completing a Minimum Credit Diploma that needs to take a new course with an EOC using PLATO?
This is an exception to the above policy and must be approved by the principal.

If a student takes a new course in PLATO, what is the time frame for dropping the course?
The drop policy shall follow the regular school course policy of 10 days.
