Welcome to Challenger Early College High School, where every student graduating ready for college, careers, and life in the 21st Century is standard. Our learning environment is purposefully designed to ready each student for college and careers through a culture of powerful teaching and learning, redefined professionalism, leadership, and personalization.
Established in 2005-2006, Challenger Early College High School is a public, selected enrollment high school and joint oversight project of the Catawba Valley Education Consortium, including Catawba County Schools, Alexander County Schools, Hickory City Schools, Newton-Conover City Schools, and Catawba Valley Community College. We are not a comprehensive high school; we are an early college. Our graduates are promised exposure to life-ready skills, a school experience that is infused with 21st Century Skills and Habits of Mind, access to a university prep curriculum and college credit up to an Associate degree from CVCC, and adherence to the early college model. Supported by NC Department of Public Instruction, the NC Community College System, and NC New Schools, the early college is a national school reform model designed through research from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Stanford University, Harvard University, and Jobs for the Future.
