CLASS RANK
All students are ranked at the end of each semester. Top seniors and juniors are ranked again at the end of the third quarter to determine Honor Graduates and Junior Marshals. Semester grades earned since the ninth grade are used for ranking. Failing grades are included in determining the GPA. Standards for Calculation of Weighted Grade Point Average and Class Rank: The calculations are based on the North Carolina standardization of: 1) academic course levels; 2) grading scales; and 3) the weighting of course grades. The class rank is based on a weighted grade point average in which a single quality point or weight is added to passing grades earned in Honors courses or two quality points are added to passing grades earned in Advanced Placement courses. Please refer to the Registration and Information Handbook for details on how Honor Graduates and Junior Marshals are determined.

GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE
A public school system, to be effective, must be attentive to the individual needs and concerns of its constituency--the students whom the system serves. It is a fundamental belief of this school system that this constituency has a right to be heard concerning individual grievances and complaints. Therefore, the board of education provides the following grievance procedure to provide an appropriate means to resolve problems which may occasionally arise in the operation of the public schools. Please contact your school counselor for additional information if it is necessary.
