I have been a business teacher for 28 years and have seen so many changes in business education during that time. I graduated from Glenville State College, Glenville, WV in the spring of 1982 and started my first teaching assignment in the fall of that same year at Webster County High School, in Upper Glade, WV. It was a very rural high school; in fact, it was the only high school in Webster County. I used to teach Typing (not Keyboarding or DCS) but Typing on typewriters (and, yes, they did plug in to electricity). We moved to North Carolina during the summer of 1995. I taught two years at Hibriten High School in Lenoir, NC before being hired at Bunker Hill High School, Claremont, NC for the 1997-1998 school year. I have been there ever since and have loved every minute of it. Well...the 45-minute drive from Lenoir every morning and afternoon gets a little tiring after a while.
On a personal note, the "we" I mentioned above is my husband, Gary, and two daughters, Danielle and Stacie. Gary and I were married in August 1983 and we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary summer 2008. We took a trip to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. Our daughter Danielle graduated from Hibriten High School in 2005 and is a theatre education major at ASU. Stacie is a 2009 Hibriten High School graduate and is also attending Appalachian State; she plans to become a middle school social studies teacher & coach. Both girls in education like their parents...”who'd a thunk it!” Our family also included a black & white cocker spaniel named Oreo until November, 2008. When she was a puppy she loved to chase and snap at bubbles that we would blow and let float in the air. We also said she was part mountain-goat because we would come home and find her laying on the top back part of the couch.
When I have spare time, I enjoy reading and singing in our church choir; I love music. I played the flute when I was in high school and still pick it up from time to time...although I've probably forgotten a lot of what I knew. I definitely play the radio better than I play the flute! I also spend a great deal of time at sporting events and watching sports on TV. My husband is a football coach at Hibriten High School, so on Friday nights I am either at Bunker Hill or Hibriten watching football. I also love taking pictures, so you'll usually see me at the games with a camera in my hands. Stacie played varsity basketball at Hibriten, and we attended those games religiously. Yes, I had my camera there, too. I would love to take a photography class because my action shots have definite “room for improvement.” We are die-hard West Virginia University Mountaineer fans and love to go to Bowl games when we can. We also support what we affectionately refer to as the "little mountaineers" of ASU. We may have to rethink that nickname since ASU beat Michigan. Go App!
I truly enjoy using computers and spend a lot of my spare time learning new things. I am the webmaster for Bunker Hill’s website and that could be a full-time job in itself keeping it current and up to date. I really wish I had more time to work on the website and would love to job shadow a real webmaster of a professional site.
