 Welcome to our

Website!

We are very proud of our students who  have had  their art on the Catawba County schools webpage, and who have art under glass frames and mattes in our Catawba County Board of Education office. All students will have art in some special place this year. It will either be up at school, be in the Paul Whitener art show in the art museum in March, in May in the Valley Hills Mall, in the Central Office on bulletin boards, and again in the Board of Education Office room in the Spring. Congratulations to all students who made art for the Red Cross, and for nursing home patients. We are currently studying watercolor painting, clay, and perspective drawing.  I am an art teacher at Webb A. Murray Elementary first semester, and  Blackburn Elementary second semester. We have had a lot of success with studying the drawing, clay sculpting of geometric forms, as well as art history. Congratulations to grades K-2 for being able to create geometric forms such as sphere, cube, and cylinder out of clay. This is a wonderful integration of art and math! Congratulations to grades 3-6 for learning how to make a blooming rose out of clay. I greatly enjoyed the Centro Latino Festival! Thanks so much to our E.S.L. teachers for telling us about this! I loved getting books, including a lovely one in Spanish and English called, Advice from My Grandmother. I greatly appreciate the recipes I received there, and learning about making tortillas from a beautiful wooden press. Thanks very much to Dr. Anita Montes, President and everyone for the art lesson information, too! We really enjoyed seeing many of our Murray students there! All of our students have done beautifully on their Constitution lessons. We have used a variety of red, white, and blue materials for tactile learners. We will be making flowers from Mexico, which are made on Cinco de Mayo. This is a lesson my students have enjoyed for many years, even though we try new things very often. Many thanks to Attorney Matthew Poteet for wise advice and information about our Constitution. The students have had a lot of success designing their own stationery. We have learned about business and friendly letters, and we have designed stationery with a Constitution theme, looking at real flags and patriotic sculptures. Thanks so much to Mrs. MarySue Williams and Mrs. Christy Wright for the wonderful book fair! I have really enjoyed purchasing such lovely books for new lesson plans! Thanks very much to Gregory's mother for being so kind to ring up my books. It was so nice to meet you! A most sincere thanks to Mr. and Mrs.Totty  and children for the art supplies and special treats! I have also found some anonymous donations in my classroom for the children-thanks so much! We have also had more donations from Habitat for Humanity this week! Thanks so much Doris and Mitzi and everyone at Habitat! I want to compliment so many students for practicing their art at home. They do  not have to, and they can borrow materials, but I want to say thanks so much for encouraging them! Art is so much like sports- the more you practice, the better you get! I am so impressed the children are practicing specific skills, like Ana and her three-dimensional castle, Santana practicing the three-dimensional rose out of clay and designing jewelry, Tyler practicing art and Spanish, and Lataysha and her mother designing three-dimensional angels! Thanks so much to Lee for the car designing he has done in honor of his family! Thanks so much to Enrique and Selena for lending me such wonderful art books and an art C.D.! We currently have art on display in glass and wooden frames at the Catawba County Schools Board of Education office and Board Room. We sincerely thank Dr. MarkleySuperintendent and Mrs. Rae Thompson,  former director of the Arts Teachers, Current Director of New Teachers,  and Mrs. Leslie Barnette, Director of K-6 Education,  for providing the  beautiful frames to display our children's art. I go ahead and teach and collect the art, and then have a judge select the art for display. Congratulations to second grade for beautiful art on display in the arts classroom. Congratulations to all Murray Mustang art students for nine weeks of wonderful art!!Thanks again to  ALL of the adults at Murray for all their wonderful support and kindness to all of our children every day!! See  you at the Fall Festival next Thursday!! I will do some painting techniques that we study in class on the children's faces, in addition to what they would like to have painted. A most sincere thanks to our custodians for doing such a fabulous, fabulous job and keeping us healthy!A sincere and most heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Carroll and Mr. Rooks! A most sincere thanks goes out to Mrs. Margaret Gunsley and her family! She has worked so hard donating art supplies! She also did a great deal of hard work in organizing and delivering art supplies she had donated! A most sincere thanks to Mrs. Gunsley for all she does! Thanks to you and your whole family!
