Social Studies News: Mrs, Whitener’s Homeroom
We will study the Mountain Region of NC. We will learn about the people of the mountains including the Cherokee. Do you know the largest cities in the Mountain Region? Ask your child. Students will also learn about the jobs, resources, and interesting places to visit.
Science News: Ms. Willis’ homeroom
This month in Science, we will learn about magnets and electricity. Your child will make an electromagnet, circuit, series and parallel circuits, and circuits with light bulbs and switches. We will also learn how to stay safe in electrical storms. In Health we will learn how to stay safe in the sun. We will have a program on Sun Safety.
Math News: Mrs. Whitener
We will finish up our study of decimals and fractions. We will also complete mini units on customary measurements and solid figures. We will be reviewing many EOG strategies and sample tests. Please have your child practice making a math study guide at home. Your child should be boxing in key words in math and showing their work as proof of their answer.
Reading News: Ms. Willis
Check each week for reading note that comes home on Monday with that week’s work. You can also find a copy on my web page under Reading 3. Continue to read for the monthly reading goal of 4 or 5 points and make sure to write pages that you read each night on the reading log. Less than fifty percent of our students made their reading goal for the month of April. Please make sure your child is actually reading 100 minutes each week. May is a reading incentive month for the Crawdads. Please remember to complete that form for a free ticket to the Crawdads.
EOG:
We will take the Reading EOG on Tuesday, May 15th, the Math EOG on Wednesday, May 16th and the Math inactive on May 17th. Please have your child get a good night’s rest and eat a healthy breakfast for each of these days. We will test from 8:10 until around 12:00. Encourage your child to take their time and work out problems or underline answers as their proof for their answers. We have worked hard this year and hope each student will show how much they have learned.
Conferences:If you would like to sign up for a conference, please let your teacher know.
