School History
For those of you who are new to Banoak School, the school was established in the 1920's by bringing two schools together. In 1921 a group of citizens decided to consolidate two schools--Bandys and Oak Hill-- each of which had been operating as a two teacher school. It was decided to call the new school Banoak. Classes in the combined school began on January 8, 1925 under the direction of Principal J. Carswell Sherrill.
In 1930 a new auditorium, gymnasium, and teacherage were added. In 1971-1972 ten new classrooms were built. Six more classrooms, a media center, and a gym were added at a later date.
We are located four miles west of Propst Crossroad on N.C. Highway 10 West in the community of Vale, North Carolina. Our school is located seventeen miles southwest of Hickory and fifty miles northwest of Charlotte. Banoak School is one of thirteen Catawba County public elementary schools. The school serves three hundred fifty-five students in kindergarten through sixth grade.
