Balls Creek Elementary shares in the Catawba County Schools Academic-Intellectually Gifted (AIG) philosophy in the mission to discover, nurture, and develop the potential in all students, and to meet the diverse cognitive and affective needs of gifted children through a comprehensive array of service options.  These services reflect the unique needs of gifted students who exist within all ethnic, geographic, and socioeconomic groups.  As part of this philosophy, we believe the school system and community have a shared responsibility to provide a quality education for gifted students as a part of the overall education goals of the school and district (adapted from Catawba County Schools AIG Philosophy, p. 17).

Students Must Meet 3 or 4 of the Criteria for AIG Placement in Reading or Mathematics Includes:

IQ Percentile (   Total Battery  Total Non-Verbal Subtest)	93%
EOG Math or Reading Percentile, or Standardized Achievement Percentile	93%
Math or Reading Grade Average	A-B
Teacher Recommendation as Determined by Information from the Referral Form; Motivation/Interest Checklist (AIG 1)	25-39 Points
