Read All About It : Barnes & Noble Bookfair!
On November 24-26 Balls Creek Elementary School is celebrating
literacy at our Barnes & Noble Bookfair.

On November 25th we will be hosting a special event at Barnes and Noble
between the hours of 6:30-7:30PM. At this event first grade will be performing
with the help of Mrs. McNeely, Mrs. Williams will be displaying several pieces of student
art work and winners of the writing contest will be sharing their submission.
Families are invited to the Hickory Barnes & Noble to this Holiday Extravaganza to encourage our students hard work, mingle with friends, and shop for books, movies, music and more.

Barnes & Noble will contribute a percentage of the sales during that time to our
school’s Media Center.  All you have to do is bring the attached voucher when you go.
If you forget it, just tell a cashier you are from Balls Creek Elementary School, and they
will ensure our school gets credit for your purchases.

Three Cheers for Balls Creek!
Balls Creek Elementary School has earned designation as a
2013-14 Exemplar School in the North Carolina Positive
Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) annual State Recognition Program.

Our school met all the requirements for this recognition by demonstrating
results achieved through working together, using school data to implement
research-based practices, and developing supportive systems to teach all
students new behaviors.

This year's PBIS Recognition Celebration was held on November 4th as part
of the 64th Conference on Exceptional Children at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro.
Attending on behalf of our school to receive our Exemplar Banner
were Rita Lail, principal, and Jan Tripp, counselor.

It's Time to Turn In Those Box Tops!
Thanks to your support, our first "Box Top Contest" was a huge success
and now we're gearing up for another round!

Please remember that our school earns $0.10 for each Box Top...
Don't toss 'em, clip 'em!

Our second contest will run through December 12th and the winning class will
earn extra recess and a popsicle party.

We Are Learning Through the Decades!
This year, Balls Creek students will be celebrating their learning
by 'dressing for the decade' throughout the year.

It all started when students celebrated the '50th Day of School' on
November 6th by dressing in clothes from the 1950's and participating in a
50's style sock-hop in the gym.

Upcoming celebrations will include:

November 21 - The 60th Day of School
Break out the tie-dye, bell bottoms and paisley prints!

December 10 - The 70th Day of School
It's the Disco decade!  Let's see your best retro style.

January 7 - The 80th Day of School
Leg warmers, jelly bracelets and wind breakers are in style!
This celebration will include another dance party with DJ Aiello.

~Congratulations to Our First Quarter Terrific Kids~

Folk Artist Visits Art Classes at Balls Creek
Duke Energy Foundation graciously provided a grant to enable folk artist,  Theresa Gloster, and Ginny Zeller Education Director form the Hickory Museum of Art to visit art classes at Balls Creek Elementary.

On Friday, October 3, Theresa Gloster, a local North Carolina Folk artist from Lenoir, shared her artwork and also worked with students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The students created a painting based on a personal experience or idea.  These paintings were displayed at the Lake Norman Folk Art Festival on Saturday, October 4. Students and Parents were invited to attend the Folk Art Festival to view the student art.
