6th Grade Studies World War II

Over the past couple weeks the Sixth Grade students at Balls Creek Elementary have been studying the World War II and the Holocaust in their ELA and Social Studies classes. The students were required to choose a topic from the Holocaust, research and then create an exhibit on that topic. The students worked passionately to create exhibits that would not only express the facts they found but also the emotion of this tragic time period in history. Last night, April 3rd, they hosted a Holocaust Museum in the Media Center for family members to view their exhibits. Students stood with their exhibits to explain their topic and their interpretation of the research and to answer any questions.
Kids Marathon
We are excited to announce that our students have an opportunity to participate in the Kids Marathon of Catawba County. The Kids Marathon was designed by a local doctor to help the youth of our community to learn about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and to nurture the healthy habit of regular exercise. With your support Balls Creek has finished first for the last FIVE years and we received a trophy and $2,500 each year to purchase new PE equipment.
Beginning March 5th, students may begin logging their miles each day. The final mile will be run at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 12th at the American Legion Fairgrounds. Please note: This is not a competition of the fastest runners! Incentives are based on the highest number of participants on the day of the event! Although parents may walk/run with their child only the students will count toward the school total.
Registration on race day will be at the American Legion Fairgrounds on US-70 between 1:00 and 1:45 pm. The race will start at 2:00 on May 12th. For our school to receive credit for your participation you must turn in your log sheet on May 12th. If you have questions call Joe Weaver or Jewel Deal at school.
