The Catawba County Schools (CCS) Academically/Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Program has engaged Bobby Norfolk, an internationally known story-performer and teaching artist, to present “In the Shadow of Lincoln” on Monday, March 26th at 6:30 PM in the Maiden High School Auditorium.
The performance is a celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday and the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. In his performance, Norfolk describes the trials and triumphs of African-Americans living in the shadow of slavery as he portrays a freed slave named Jacob. He uses first person narratives, poetry, and song to highlight the key players, events, and political forces that brought ordinary men and women into extraordinary circumstances.
Norfolk’s performance is geared to grades three-and-up but children of all ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by a parent or an adult.
Please register by contacting Kay Hoots by phone at 828.464.8333, ext. 273 or by email to email@example.com by the afternoon of 3/26/2012.
