I am a graduate of St. Stephens High School. After graduating high school I attended Appalachian State University where I majored in Elementary Education. Following my time at ASU I did my student teaching at Sweet Water Elementary and did a brief interim teaching second grade at Murray Elementary. I got my first full time teaching job at Blackburn in sixth grade. Teaching sixth grade for five years was a joy and during that time I obtained my Masters in School Administration from ASU. I was the Assistant Principal for one year at Fred T. Foard High School and three years at Oxford Elementary. In 2008 I became the Principal of Blackburn Elementary serving in that role for the six years.
As a native of Catawba County I have a great appreciation of the people, places and history of this area. I love to spend time with my family and truly enjoy working with all the students, staff, and parents. Currently I live in Conover with my wife and two children. My children bring such joy to my life and I love seeing them grow and change every day! Our family pet is a beagle named Mackenzie.
My great passion is teaching children and adults. I am currently an adjunct professor at Lenoir Rhyne University in the Education Department. I completed the Distinguished Leadership Program (DLP), a year-long leadership development program for practicing school principals designed and provided by the North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principal’s Association in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and UNC-LearnNC in 2013. I will graduate with my Ed. S in Educational Leadership through Appalachian State University in the spring of 2016.

I am a graduate of Fred T. Foard High School. After high school I attended Appalachian State University where I received a degree in Special Education K-12. My teaching career started at Fred T. Foard High School as a Occupational Course of Study teacher. I spent two years at Foard before spending a year at Blackburn Elementary as a Resource teacher. The following year I returned back to Foard to become the Self-Contained teacher for the next three years. During that time I received my Masters in Administration from Gardner-Webb University. While teaching I also coached softball and women's golf at Foard.
Outside of school I love spending time with my husband and son. My family brings me so much pride and happiness. I love the mountains and going to the beach during the summer. I am very passionate about students and helping them become successful for the future.
