School Counselors Promote Growth and Learning
Elementary school is a time when students develop attitudes concerning school, self, peers, social groups and family. It is a time when students develop decision-making, communication and life skills as well as character values. Comprehensive developmental counseling is based on prevention--providing goals which are integrated into all aspects of childrens' lives. School counselors work with all students, including those who are considered at-risk and those with special needs. They are specialists in human behavior and relationships and provide assistance to students through four primary interventions: individual and small-group counseling, large group guidance counseling, consultation and coordination.
