About Walk in My Shoes Day

On Wednesday, November 17 during American Education Week, Catawba County Schools will host the  fourth annual “Walk in My Shoes” Day. It is our pleasure to invite you to join us along with your peers from the Catawba County business community and walk in the shoes of a teacher, principal or senior administrator on that day. We believe that this experience will be both rewarding and enlightening.

As a shadow, your day will begin at approximately 8:00 a.m. and will conclude following lunch or at the end of the school day, if your time allows it. You will be shadowing a teacher, principal, or senior administrator at a location of your choice. If this day is not convenient, you are encouraged to select another day November 15 – December 1.

This is an excellent opportunity for community leaders to go beyond the headlines and into classrooms to get a true picture of public education in action. Students benefit when business leaders take the time to share their knowledge and resources. The collective efforts of parents, teachers, principals, school administrators and business and community leaders prove that “public education does work.”

As a follow up to your experience as a participant, we invite you to share your impressions at a luncheon to be held in your honor on Thursday, December 2, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. at the Market on Main in Hickory. We look forward to coming together in an exchange of ideas and encourage your feedback.

We value your role in the community. Together, we know that we can positively affect the children of Catawba County Schools.
