
The Catawba County Schools Public Information and Communications Department is responsible for maintaining effective communications for Catawba County Schools. It also serves parents and other members of the community and the news media by delivering clear, timely and accurate information. We communicate the objectives and achievements of CCS so that the public can effectively understand district functions and goals.
We encourage and coordinate news coverage with media, arrange for staff interviews and respond to requests for information in an effort to promote full public understanding of the issues, policies and accomplishments of the school district.
DEPARTMENT PURPOSE:
- To provide timely and complete responses to requests for information pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act.
- To support the individual schools, Board of Education, superintendent, and other executive staff in actively communicating Board actions, new education policies and procedures, and CCS programs.
- To communicate through media, publications, social networking and the CCS website with timely and important information for staff, parents and the community.
- To build community support for Catawba County Schools.
COMMUNICATION TOOLS USED:
In order to provide timely information to our internal and external audiences, we communicate using some of the following methods:
- The Catawba County Schools website is a primary source for news and information. It is updated almost daily. Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube are also now being used as communication resources.
- School news and photos are released to local media (newspapers, radio and television stations) several times each week.
- An electronic newsletter, Board Highlights, recaps School Board Meetings and is accessible electronically from posted on the district web site and the Catawba County Schools Facebook page, usually within 24 hours of the meeting.
OTHER INITIATIVES
- We oversee the "Shining Star" Character Recognition Program for students and the "Above and Beyond the Call" ABC Recognition Program for CCS staff members.
- We foster partnerships to engage the public by offering opportunities to volunteer and collaborate on projects through our "Walk in My Shoes Day".
