The TIMS Program provides support and consulting for the Computer Assisted Routing Program used in every secondary school system in North Carolina. The Transportation Information Management System is a joint project activity among the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Institute for Transportation Research and Education, and the Urban Institute at UNCC. Since September 1, 1992, as required by the legislative mandate, all LEA's have implemented the Transportation Information Management System (TIMS). Whereas this program is developed and managed in the pupil transportation program at ITRE, it is publicly available and included on the NC Bus Safety website.
This system allows Catawba County Transportation to route the school buses in a safe and efficient manner. The TIMS staff works closely with the Transportation Director, bus drivers, school personnel and other county officials to make the routes and maps as accurate as possible. The TIMS system is also used to collect and process data used for state reports and funding.
