Description: The Little Read is an elementary education community-wide reading initiative of Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Visiting Writers Series “In Their Own Words.” It is designed to provide quality literature for classroom use and to involve in meaningful ways parents and other community members in the educational process.
Mission: The mission of The Little Read is to make reading come alive to elementary school children (and their parents) in Catawba County by organizing special reading and cultural programs in conjunction with the appearance of a major children’s author.

The 2009-2010 author was national known auther, Julia Alvarez. Fourth grade was the identified group using the book How Tia Lola Came to Visit Stay.
