Startown requires a lesson plan, approved by principal, before scheduling lab use. We also have limits (3 days in a row, 2 weeks in a row, 2 classes per day). Sometimes we override the limits when demand is low. Below is the lesson plan form.

Maiden Elementary

I have a calendar in Sharepoint where teachers have to sign up for the cart.  Teachers are not allowed to take out a name in order to add their name.  Sometimes, there are emergencies, but the teachers must communicate that with each other.  Teachers put their name and time to and from in the Title section of the calendar.  Ex.  Garwood 9:15-10:45

Also, I have a sign on the cart to remind teachers to hook up the computers.  Sometimes, students will put the laptops on the cart without hooking them up in order to charge.  I encourage the cart be plugged in when in the classrooms.

We have had trouble with students messing with the background.

Bandys High School

Each laptop is numbered.

Each slot in the cart is numbered so laptops go back into the same place after each use.

Each cart has a clipboard on top of it.

Each clipboard has a spreadsheet on it for teachers to record the following information: date, student name, number of laptop student used.

We also require teachers to send 2 students per cart when picking up and reuturning mobile carts.

Claremont Elementary

We have a calendar in sharepoint where they sign up to reserve the cart on the equipment calendar.  The cart is stored in the computer lab and that assistant helps to oversee the carts use and keeps the keys.  (An extra set is in the media center just in case.) Each laptop is numberd as well as the slot in the cart so they go back in the same place after each use.  There is a clipboard on top of the cart that has a checkoff sheet that must be signed off by the teacher.  Two students must take the cart to the teacher, or the teacher picks them up either before or after school.  We are reminded to "share the resource" and not hog it :)

Keys are to be picked up from and returned to Mrs. Hollar.
If you send the laptops to another classroom during the day, you must sign off and have the new teacher sign on.
Laptops are to be returned to the lab by 3:00 each afternoon so they can be charged.
Teacher Date Time Out: Time In:  In Order? Plugged In? # of Mice Problems?

Is anyone thinking of circulating the laptops to teachers individually rather than the whole set at once?  Do you see major problems with this?
