Mentors
are a vital part of the teacher induction program. Research shows that
induction programs help promote teacher quality and teacher retention. The
consistent component of successful induction programs is mentoring. Catawba
County Schools adheres to the practice of teacher mentoring. We believe that
new teachers must be provided with support, encouragement, as well as a
profusion of resources. The first years of teaching are oftentimes the most
challenging for new teachers. Mentoring during these years can prove to make
these challenges surmountable.
