What is Title I?
Title I is the largest federally funded education program in the nation. Recently re-authorized by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, Title I funding helps local school systems provide equal educational opportunities for low-performing students with economic need. Any school with 35% or more students on free or reduced lunch is eligible for Title I funds. The goal of Title I is to assist students in achieving grade level standards in the area of reading. Title I is committed to the shared effort of closing the achievement gap between all students in Catawba County Schools and to providing high quality, engaging instruction that will motivate students to become lifelong readers and learners.

Catawba County Schools Title I reading program offers additional reading instruction to help students with reading problems. During the school year, the students’ reading skills are evaluated several times.
Title I teachers and classroom teachers work closely together to see which students need to be considered for more assistance in reading. Title I teachers meet with parents and go over the reading assessment and review the Student Education Plan. This plan lists the test scores, strengths, weaknesses, goals for the year, and the evaluation from the end of year test. Parents are given information that may be helpful as they work with their children at home. |
