Each school receiving funds under Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) must develop a written school-parent compact jointly with parents for all children participating in Title I activities, services, and programs.  That compact is part of the school’s written parental involvement policy developed by the school and parents.  The compact must outline how parents, the school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the state’s high standards.

The school and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I will agree that the compact outlines how they will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the state’s high standards.

Watch D.O.G.S.

Calling All Men (Dad, Granddads, Uncles…)
Blackburn Elementary is holding its frst information meeting for the Watch D.O.G.S. program  Thursday, March 21st from 6-7pm.  This is a volunteer program to encourage males to take one day off of work and volunteer at the school.  If you would be interested in being part of the core group of Dads in charge of the program please inform your childs teacher and we will add your name to be contacted shortly.  If you would like more information about the program please visit: Watch D.O.G.S.

Blackburn Visitor Policy

Please remember that it is policy at Blackburn Elementary for any individual who enters the building to sign in at the office and secure a visitors pass. If you need to speak with a teacher you must let the office staff know. They will contact the teacher to see if he/she has time to meet with you. If not, you will be asked to schedule a time to meet during the teacher’s planning time or after school. If you are dropping off something for your child, you will be asked to leave the item in the office. Your child will then be called to come to the office to pick up the item.

We continuously strive to provide a safe environment for all of our students and staff. The best way to do this is to be aware of all visitors who are in our building. We appreciate your cooperation. Please feel free to contact the school if you have any questions or concerns.

Students are encouraged to help Blackburn start a chain reaction of kindness.  When students do kind things, say kind things, and include others in what they are doing they can earn a link.  The links earned by students will be put tighter to form a chain that will be displayed in the gym.  We hope to have the biggest chain in Catawba County by the end of the year and more importantly show kindness to everyone!

Ways to Help Your Child’s Teacher

There is a program that helps teachers get funding for special classroom projects. Parents, friends, businesses, etc., can make a tax deductible donation to help a teacher get materials for the classroom. Sometimes the projects are for books, equipment, games, or other materials that are needed. You can search the site and find a teacher or project to support. Just go to the website and search by school name, teacher name, or by project type.  Several projects have already been funded through this site during the past few years. And remember, you are not only helping your child’s school, but you are getting a tax break!  The website is www.DonorsChoose.org!  Your generous donation can be doubled by using the code INSPIRE until July 27th.
