From The Principal

  •

We had a busy week at HMA as teachers and students began preparations for testing.  We are still in need of proctors.  Please consider volunteering if able (see the link provided).  You can help your student prepare for end of grade testing by reviewing the study guides sent home on Wednesday.  Have a great weekend!

    Proctors

Please consider being a proctor for EOG testing.  We typically need 35-40 proctors each testing day.  Contact Mrs. Stodden (jennifer_stodden@catawbaschools.net ) or Ms. Poovey (holly_poovey@catawbaschools.net ) to volunteer or use the link provided: https://goo.gl/forms/jCzGQe9qq49EjuNU2

    Parent Advisory

The Netflix series 13 Reasons Why is trending nationally, especially with teens.  The video series depicts strong and graphic themes of suicide, bullying, drug use, sexual assault and other social issues (the series is rated TV Mature).  We understand it is each parent’s decision whether or not to allow their child to watch the series.  However, we encourage parents to research the series before making the decision.

    Sports Physicals

Sports physicals will be available at SSHS on Monday, May 8 starting at 6pm.  The cost is $15 cash only.  The physicals are good for all of the 2017-2018 school year.  Please print and complete a  physical form before you go.  http://www.catawbaschools.net/site/handlers/filedownload.ashx?moduleinstanceid=4093&dataid=1253&FileName=PHYSICALFORM.pdf

    Academic Excellence

HMA is proud to be in the top 5% of all NC schools for student academic growth.  Our students and teachers are able to achieve this honor by maintaining high standards and requiring rigorous academic coursework.

HMA Math teachers are utilizing Chromebooks to help prepare our students with 21st century skills. The Chromebooks were able to be purchased through a donation from Cargo Transporters.  Thank you John Pope and Cargo Transporters!

    Equity

At HMA, we treat people the RIGHT way.

We are Respectful, act with Integrity, make Good choices, are Honest, and Treat people the way we want to be treated

HMA Wristband   Check out the wristband link!

We will continue to discuss and learn about these beliefs throughout the year.

The mission of H.M. Arndt Middle School is to inspire every student to reach their full potential. The staff at HMA is dedicated to this mission and works diligently to ensure that each student has an opportunity to be successful and reach their full potential.

HMA is recognized as a state leader for student growth, ranking in the top 5% of all North Carolina schools for student growth index. We offer a variety of academic and extra-curricular programs. The H.M. Arndt website details many of these outstanding opportunities.

I encourage parents to use PowerSchool as a way to keep track of their son/daughter’s academic progress. PowerSchool allows parents to see up-to-date grades for each class. Parents who do not have the required login information may come by the school and request the access information.

I hope everyone has a great 2016-17 school year!
