Catawba County Teacher Honored by Montreat College
Last Saturday was a special day for Webb Murray Elementary fourth grade teacher Amanda Solesbee. The Catawba County Schools Elementary Beginning Teacher of the Year and Montreat College alumna was recognized when the college retired her soccer jersey #4, in honor of her record-breaking college, conference, and national accomplishments.

Solesbee is pictured with her parents and brother.

Solesbee began her soccer career in the 4th grade in Burke County. “Funny, because I teach 4th grade this year,” she said. In the sixth grade, she began playing club soccer for CVYSA in Hickory and traveled from Morganton to Hickory for practice. She also played during middle school at Table Rock Middle in Burke County, before moving to Hickory in 2000 to play on the varsity team at St. Stephens High where she graduated in 2004. She also played with Charlotte Soccer Club during her high school years. She was at Montreat from 2004-2007. During her college career she was co-captain of the Montreat women's soccer team and broke two school records her senior year. She also made All-American Scholar, All-Academic, and the ACC All-Conference team.

Heather Hable, Solesbee's co-captain her senior year and now the assistant women’s soccer coach for Montreat, recognized her at the ceremony with special words of praise. For the complete text of her speech, visit this link: Amanda Solesbee
