Approved Calendars

Linked below you will find two different calendars that have been adopted by the Board of Education for the 2012-2013 school year.  The calendar approved on October 24th, 2011, reflects 185 student days with a start date for students of August 27th, 2012.  Current legislation stipulates that students may not return to school before August 25th, but in 2012 the 25th falls on a Saturday, making it necessary to start on the 27th.

The Board of Education, however, has requested a weather waiver from the State Board of Education that would allow CCS to open schools on an earlier date.  School districts may request a weather waiver when they have experienced eight days of school closures, early dismissals, or delayed openings for four years out of a ten-year period.  CCS meets the waiver requirements and has requested that it be allowed to develop a calendar that better meets its needs.  The State Board of Education will not act on waiver requests until its May meeting.

To prepare for the scenario in which a weather waiver is approved, the CCS Board of Education on January 30th, 2012 adopted an early start, 185-student-day calendar, with a beginning date for students of August 7th.
